A debreceni Nagytemplom

Debrecen and the neighbouring towns offer high level events and programmes to visitors all year round. The cultural, sports, traditional and gastronomic events of national and international importance that are held every year are preferred both by children and grown-ups. Several visitors must have heard of typical events of our region such as Flower Carnival of Debrecen, Jazz Days, Turkey Days, Hortobágy International Equestrian Days, Hortobágy Bridge Fair, Hajdú Week in Hajdúböszörmény or Lake Vekeri Festival and the so called Kotta Festival preferred by young people.

In addition to the main events and festivals that have been attracting more and more visitors for years, the various Village Days, Spa Parties, exhibitions, equestrian and horse-herders’ shows, folklore programmes, folklore art fairs are also popular. These events give an overall picture of the characteristics and traditions of the landscape, culture and folk customs to the visitors. In addition to the rich folk art traditions, all fields of art date back to to a rich past in Hajdúság. In the field of fine arts, literature, theatre and music a number of well-known and recognized artists and authors born in Debrecen or having strong ties to our town worked and work here even today.

The local artists, writers, poets, literati, theatrical companies, classical music ensembles and music groups have an active and important part in cultural life both in Hungary and Europe. The local establishments such as theatres, cinemas, community centres, museums, education establishments and art clubs have a supporting part of high importance regarding art and culture.
