One of the main tourist attractions in the area of Hajdúság is the health-giving water.
You cannot find any other country all over the world where so many kinds of medicinal and thermal water break surface in such a small area. The Hungarian Lowland called Alföld abounds in health-giving thermal waters. There are about 60 towns with classified hot medicinal water in our country and in our area called Hajdúság Debrecen and Hajdúszoboszló are classified as spa resorts of high importance.

The medicinal waters of our area (they are medically proved medicinal waters) were explored by geologist Pávai-Vajna Ferenc who searched for hydrocarbon derivatives and he explored medicinal springs of high capacity and of high temperature instead of finding mineral oil and natural gas in the area of Hajdúszoboszló, Debrecen and Karcag.

There are a number of wells providing hot water of over 30 oC. The water consists of alkali hydro-carbonates mainly. This water is recommended as water drinking cure and to treat for gastritis, enteritis, hyperacidity or respiratory catarrh. The medicinal waters containing iodine and bromide are recommended to treat for rheumatism, the diseases of female organs and for certain kinds of dermatitis mainly applying it in drinking cures. The medicinal waters of iron content are recommended to treat for iron-deficiency abscess. Thermal waters are applied not only for therapeutic purposes but they are also excellently applicable for keeping in good health and promoting regeneration. The field of health tourism in our area experienced considerable developments and renovations in the last years. These development and renovation projects are in progress even today and in the near future further investment projects will be accomplished.
